Sharing the Joy of Music at First United Methodist Church

 

Calling all music lovers! Vocalists, instrumentalists, and everyone who enjoys performing or listening to live music is invited to “Play Music on the Porch” on Saturday August 29 from 10:00-12:00. at First United Methodist Church, 1600 Bancroft Ave. San Leandro. Our outdoor labyrinth courtyard, facing Bancroft Ave., will be our porch.

 

Rev Myeong Shin Nam and the congregation invite the community to experience the feelings of joy, peace and connection that come when we share the gift of music. The enjoyment of music is not restricted by borders or language. One does not need to understand all the words of a song in order to be moved by the melody or to feel the sentiment expressed by the artist. Secular and sacred music from around the world is welcome at this free, inclusive, family-friendly event.

 

If you are a musician/vocalist and would like to share a tune with the community, please register in advance at the church website. Original compositions, covers, classical arrangements, world music, and old favorites are all welcome. We will have a piano available that you are welcome to use. Any other instruments will need to be provided by the artist. Performers are asked to stay within a 5-minute limit so that we can accommodate as many artists as possible.

 

If you like to listen to music, come join us! We'll have chairs, light refreshments and an activity area for children. And if you feel like lifting your own voice in song, there will be a couple of sing-along opportunities during the event. We'll be sitting outdoors, so bring a hat!
